Praise in Motion company dancers range in age from 12 to adult, with a junior company level for dancers 9-12. Dancers with a strong ballet background who are called to dance ministry are invited to meet us by taking open summer classes or joining us for summer camp. Company Levels
Praise in Motion Company
Praise in Motion’s company dancers demonstrate heartfelt worship, excellent technique, and responsible study. Company dancers range in age from 12 to adult and are selected by audition. Company dancers and their families participate deeply in PIM’s ministry by leading devotions, choreographing, distributing costumes, marketing, and more. PIM dancers and their families are also the driving force behind the productions, by serving behind the scenes on tech crew, or helping with front of house by ushering, decorating the lobby, etc.
Junior Company
Dancers of any age who have not yet had 3 years of ballet, as well as dancers who are aged 9-12, are welcome in our Junior Company. Junior Company dancers perform in both “The Gift” and “Spring Concert” and meet alongside the company for class and rehearsal. Those who are at the pre-pointe or beginning pointe level may go en pointe at the director’s discretion. Junior Company dancers’ families volunteer at the productions.
Training and Expectations
Praise in Motion dancers meet for devotions, class, and rehearsal on Thursday evenings. Thursday night is the only required attendance, but every dancer is required to take a minimum of two 90-minute ballet classes per week, either with PIM, or elsewhere (additional classes and dance styles beyond the minimum are strongly encouraged). PIM offers a two-hour class on Mondays and most dancers are at PIM both Monday and Thursday during the school year.
College Program
Dancers whose college location or work schedule prevents participation on Thursday evenings are encouraged to inquire about weekend-only participation for devotions, class, and rehearsal. College Program dancers perform in both “The Gift” and “Spring Concert”, rehearsing 2-3 weekends per month and joining the main company at a Saturday rehearsal. The schedule is set based on demand; please get in touch to express interest, or for more information.
Participation Fees
Thursday only
Praise in Motion dancers meet for devotions, class, and rehearsal on Thursday evenings from 5:30-9:00, except by prior approval (for college students and those with work conflicts). Thursday-only participation is $105 per month for August-May and includes devotions, one 90-minute class per week, and costume and performance fees.
Monday + Thursday
Monday + Thursday participation is $155 per month and provides a 2-hour Monday night class (7:00-9:00) in addition to Thursday night’s devotions, class, and rehearsal. All Praise in Motion dancers are encouraged to take their second required ballet class of the week at PIM on Monday night. Dancers who attend on Monday night also get extra rehearsal opportunities as we get close to performance time.
Junior Company
Junior Company dancers meet for devotions, class, and rehearsal on Thursday evenings from 5:30-9:00 with the Company. Junior Company may also offer Monday classes, according to demand. Participation is $85 per month for August-May for Thursday-only participation and includes devotions, one 90-minute class per week, and costume and performance fees. Participation on both Mondays and Thursdays is $135 per month.
Tech Crew opt-out
Praise in Motion has a rich history as a ministry where dancers and their families have been able to serve together. Fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers have long helped backstage with set up, tech crew, and strike. We strongly encourage dancers and their families to participate in the behind-the-scenes parts of the ministry, but also recognize that schedule demands can sometimes interfere with the best intentions, so we offer the option of contributing $125 as an opt-out, per production.
Annual Schedule
Auditions
Auditions for the main company will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 for intermediate and advanced dancers 12 and older. Younger dancers who are interested in the junior company are invited to join us for class during the summer, either during our 6-week summer session, or during our intensive ('“workshop”) week from July 17-21. 6-week summer classes are held on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm and Thursdays at 6:00 pm from June 5 - July 13. Intensive (“workshop”) week classes are held at 10:00 am and 11:45 am on Mon-Fri, July 17-21.
Summer Session: June 14-July 21
Praise in Motion meets on Tuesday and Thursday nights during a 6-week summer session from June 5-July 13. in order to allow dancers to rest, enjoy vacation, travel, and attend camps during the summer, dancers provide PIM with their summer attendance schedule so that we can schedule guest teachers and rehearsals accordingly. Summer classes and rehearsals let us get to know new dancers and experiment with choreography.
Workshop: July 17-21
All Praise in Motion dancers are expected to attend PIM’s summer intensive, commonly referred to as “Workshop”, which will be held on Monday-Friday July 17-21 from 9:30-5:30. Dancers participate in devotions, take classes in a variety of disciplines from guest teachers, learn new choreography for the upcoming season, and get their cast lists for “The Gift” on the Friday of workshop week. Workshop fee is $315.
Regular Season: August-May
Praise in Motion’s regular season kicks off in August with our regular weekly schedule of Monday class and Thursday devotions/class/rehearsal as we prepare to perform “The Gift” on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas we perform at churches and holiday events. We return in the new year to prepare for spring concert (end of April). Our season ends at the end of May.
